Fort Worth Air Quality

Or lack thereof...

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram has an article written by Jim Bradbury that YOU don't want to miss concerning the recent air quality study in Fort Worth.

The value of royalty income will prove fleeting if we discover all too late that the health of our young and old was diminished because we were unwilling to press this issue.

Credibility was key for this work. After the protocol was developed and Eastern Research Group selected to do the work, the city staff folded back into a behind-the-scenes process of developing the contract. The process was not open to the Air Quality Study Committee or the public.

Benzene, the contaminant that has drawn much of the current attention on air quality, was detected 94 percent of the time. It is the best marker of an emission problem.

Seven other volatile organic compounds were detected at rates higher than 90 percent. That these values were collected citywide underscores the gravity of the situation.

The report identified seven key pollutants for Fort Worth. Eastern Research's analysis appears to judge the presence of the pollutants only by whether they produce an "urgent health hazard." That leaves open a very important question about Fort Worth's overall near- and short-term air quality.

This may be too simplistic for air scientists, but if we find benzene 94 percent of the time, we have a problem.

WHAT'S in the Trinity River?

On one end of town THEY spend lots of taxpayer dollars telling YOU to "Jump on in"!

On the other end of town THEY tell YOU where the storm/sewer drains to.

Ironic?  Idiotic?  Irresponsible?

Trinity River Sewage Water

A Texas Tribune story about the Trinity River made the New York Times a few weeks ago.  Too bad Texans aren't listening.

Thank goodness the Watchdog was.

Next time Granger and Company - the Trinity River Vision Authority, City of Fort Worth, the Tarrant Regional Water District, the 7th Street gang, tells you to come on down and tube the Trinity River, you might want to remember this...

The state has a number of projects that send treated sewage water back into major water systems, albeit somewhat less directly. One of the newer ones is in the Tarrant Regional Water District, which serves Fort Worth, Arlington and a few other cities. The project, in operation since 2009, sends some water from the Trinity River (which is highly polluted, due partly to discharges from wastewater-producing plants, including Fort Worth’s) through a specially constructed wetland area and into a reservoir, where it will be reused in the water system. That project is set to expand over the coming decade.

You might also notice, the above mentioned tend to stay on the banks on the river.

Texas Drought

Yahoo news does a story on a Texas lake turned blood red.

Why are the fish dead?
From a bacteria that thrives in oxygen deprived water.

Chromatiaceae bacteria.

WHO keeps telling you to come on down and get in the Trinity River for a float, on a tube?  The Tarrant Regional Water District and/or their corporation, the Trinity River Vision Authority.

The article says many West Texas reservoirs have done dry.  Some are calling it the end of times...well, what do you think happens when WE run out of water?

We're in a drought, you know.

There is a comment on the article that seemed to sum it up.....

We should not be so worried about God ending the world, because we are doing a pretty good job.

Drought doesn't just apply to the weather...pay attention.  YOU can't afford not to.

(Per News9.com) Haliburton stopped burning fuel on their land in Duncan, OK. Now, the water is contaminated.

If it takes twenty years, what do YOU think Fort Worth will look like then?

THE PEOPLE of Duncan, Oklahoma were smart enough to call in Erin Brochovich.  She attended the meeting last night and her team is getting water samples.  Talk about a hero.  Hinkley, Duncan, WHO's next?

Putting 2 and 2 together

That's what we were doing yesterday when we discussed Erin Brockovich and Duncan, Oklahoma.

Guess WHO will be in Duncan tonight?

Many locals have had contact with Erin over the past couple of years.  We can't wait till she makes it to Texas.  Literally.

Erin - When you're done in Duncan, come on down to Fort Worth.  The Welcome Wagon is ready!  So are THE PEOPLE.

Breath of Fresh Air (in Texas!)

A hero at TCEQ?  Someone standing up for the citizens?  Doing what they were designed to do?

We didn't believe it either, but a letter in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram says it's so.

Kudos, sir.  If there were more like you, Texans could breathe easier.

Speak for yourself

As an employee of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and a servant on behalf of the residents of Texas and the environment, I am appalled and embarrassed by the recent commentary by fellow public servant and alleged environmental caretaker Bryan Shaw, chairman of the TCEQ. (See: "Time for science in Fort Worth air discussion," June 13) Let me be clear in saying Shaw does not speak for everyone at the agency. His words and the tone in which he expresses his thoughts and opinions are divisive, irresponsible and counterproductive and do not in any way reflect where I stand on environmental issues affecting this state.

If I speak on behalf of the agency or use my official position as a sounding board to push or endorse a personal opinion, I stand a good chance of losing my job. This is an official rule -- a rule that obviously does not apply to Shaw.

Got Water?

Duncan, Oklahoma does.  Because Haliburton is supplying it.

In a country where the industry repeatedly claims, "there has never been a case of water contamination", there sure seems to be a lot of water buying going on.  And if YOU didn't pollute someone's water, WHY would you offer to pay any healthcare costs associated?  Read about it on TXSharon's new website.

Does anyone not remember Erin Brockovich??

Erin’s exhaustive investigation uncovered that Pacific Gas & Electric had been poisoning the small town of Hinkley’s Water for over 30 years. It was because of Erin’s unwavering tenacity that PG & E had been exposed for leaking toxic Chromium 6 into the ground water. This poison affected the health of the population of Hinkley. In 1996, as a result of the largest direct action lawsuit of its kind, spear-headed by Erin and Ed Masry, the utility giant was forced to pay out the largest toxic tort injury settlement in US history: $333 million in damages to more than 600 Hinkley residents.

For the latest, go here.

Forecast - Foggy with a chance of BS

In the Fort Worth Business Press, Alex Mills, President of a pro drilling group in Texas takes shots at New Jersey lawmakers for voting to protect their water supply from fracing.

He claims:

How many times has there been a circumstance where groundwater has been contaminated by hydraulic fracturing? In 60 years and hundreds of thousand wells being fracked, not one case of pollution has occurred.

Back in the day, fracing was vertical, not horizontal.  And when he says not one case has occured, well, we're betting those families all over the country that can no longer use their water would have a different opinion.  Speaking of opinions, read the fine print under Mr. Mills column.  "The opinions expressed are soley of the author".

What do they say about opinions, again??

What NOT to do this week

Read the latest Trinity River Vision scheme courtesy of Durango.  Good questions, anyone from the Trinity River Vision, Trinity River Vision Authority, Tarrant Regional Water District, District of Columbia, City of Fort Worth, or Tarrant County want to answer?

What is the reason the Trinity River Vision Boondoggle has added Happy Hour Inner Tube Floats to its vision? How much do the Happy Hours cost? Is the cost being covered completely by the sponsors?

Are J.D. Granger and his mom, Kay, going to be in the Trinity River on Thursday? If not, why not?

Then read about the Trinity River Improvement Partnership.  Get involved, if not for you, for YOUR kids.

Right on the Money

A letter in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram speaks volumes.  There's no abundance of water but while the city goes broke, the Tarrant Regional Water District and the Trinity River Vision Authority seem to have an abundance of money.  Someone should ask the gas drillers and the politicians where they got it?

Trinity travails

Tubing on the Trinity, skiing on the Trinity, wakeboarding on the Trinity, kayaking on the Trinity -- we have all this while area lake levels are dropping at what should be an alarming rate.

Please tell me I'm not the only lifelong resident of Fort Worth who remembers when crossing the Trinity most summers meant not getting your feet wet.

The Trinity River Vision in conjunction with the Tarrant Regional Water District is wasting our most precious resource by creating the illusion of an abundance of water in downtown Fort Worth.

By now, economic development by the water district should be considered a clear conflict of interest. How do you draw new business into a region where lake levels are at double-digit lows, where they will be soon, and where future water resources are a question mark?

Tubing on the Trinity is not the answer.

Crooked Creeks

WHY would a fracing truck be backed up in the woods in Fort Worth?

Oh right, there's a creek in those woods.

WHO all is involved with "clean" "safe" drilling in Fort Worth?

Think it's not happening here?  Check out the sites in YOUR neighborhood.  Lots of them seem to be awfully close to OUR waterways.

Ask WHY?

And WHO is watching?
WHERE do those creeks flow?
Straight into the River of Denial. Just another Cowtown Connection.
